■ No previous photographic experience required

■ A smartphone, compact, mirror-less and/ or a DLSR camera*

■ An all rounder zoom such as a 18-55mm, 24-105mm most useful

■ Memory Cards: we recommend at least a 4 GB card for each session of shooting

■ Charged camera battery and a spare if you have one

■ A wide-angle is useful for landscapes. A telephoto for wildlife

How many people will be on my course?
■ A maximum of 6 persons for a highly personalised learning experience. This ensures plenty of one on one attention

■ We also cater for larger groups bringing in other tutors and splitting the groups into teams. Talk to us about your special requirements such as a 'team building' Night Photography course for a government organisation, company, your travel or camera club and for private groups

What camera gear & equipment do I need to do the course?
■ Any full or cropped frame DSLR camera, mirrorless camera, quality compact with full manual controls or smartphone using a pro app such as Camera+ . Full frame cameras with their bigger sensors will give better results if we are forced to select a high ISO setting as in hand held portraits

■ A wide angle lens eg 16-35mm (on a full frame camera) ,10-22mm (on a cropped sensor camera); a 24-105mm on (full frame mirrorless camera), a telephoto lens eg. 70-300mm or 70-200mm; a mid range lens eg 24-105mm or 24-70mm. A 50mm f1.8  is small, cheap and great to have in your kit. 

■ An on-camera flash unit is useful for night photography. An external Speedlite flash is much better. If your camera does not have a flash you will miss out slightly but will learn the technique by observing

■ You will need a sturdy tripod for this course. We have a few spare tripods for client use at no charge. Tripods with a ball, swivel head are the best. 

■ Memory Card(s): we recommend at least an 4 GB card for this 3 hour course

■ Your camera instruction book ( or use your smartphone to access this information)

■ A torch or use your smartphone light to look at camera settings

■ Course notes mirror the practical hands on course workshops with detailed with easy to understand, step by step procedures to teach you camera handling skills, about composition, lighting and a myriad of other techniques to become a competent low light and night photographer

Do you rent out camera gear or give advice on what to buy?
■ We rent Nikon DLSR cameras with a wide angle 18-55mm lens and a 50mm f1.8 for $40. A full rental package including the camera, 3 lenses, flash and tripod is $60.
■ We sell Lexar 32GB SD cards for $25 or bring your own.

Is the course beneficial in building a portfolio?
■ With one-to-one guidance from our experienced photography tutors, and quality stylish houses to shoot then yes.. these images will certainly enhance your portfolio

What are some of the indoor & outdoor locations we photograph at?
■ We endeavour to go to most or all of the following destinations

■ South Bank, Melbourne skyline across the Yarra River, GPO, Federation Square and street scenes in general

What happens if it's raining?
■ We do not give refunds for inclement weather

■ Bring a raincoat and/or umbrella as some of the best night photos are taken in the rain. In cities where it snows you can get a nice blurred effect of snowflakes. The same applies with rain. You also get fantastic puddle reflections and increased colour saturation in rainy conditions.

■ We have a number of indoor shooting location options if its raining to practice technique

■ We also offer a 'repeat for free' weather guarantee. Join the course anyway. If the weather is really bad we will do an hour and you then receive a gift voucher to come back at another time. If you are an out of town attendee we run this course regardless of the weather. If we call the course off you can 'gift' your credit voucher to a friend or whomever
